Enabling Floating Offshore VAWT Design by Coupling OWENS and OpenFAST

چکیده
Vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs) have a long history, with wide variety of turbine archetypes that been designed and tested since the 1970s. While few utility-scale VAWTs currently exist, placement generator near base could make advantageous over tradition horizontal-axis for floating offshore applications via reduced platform costs improved scaling potential. However, there are numerical design analysis tools available VAWTs. One existing engineering toolset aero-hydro-servo-elastic simulation is Offshore Wind ENergy Simulator (OWENS), but its current modeling capability systems non-standard not ideal. This article describes how OWENS has coupled to several OpenFAST modules update improve discusses verification these new capabilities features. The results test agree well parallel simulation, validating in VAWT applications. These developments will enable optimization future.

Hydrodynamic Module Coupling in the Offshore Wind Energy Simulation (OWENS) Toolkit
When considering the future of offshore wind energy, developing cost effective methods of harnessing the offshore wind resource represents a significant challenge which must be overcome to make offshore wind a viable option. As the majority of the capital investment in offshore wind is in the form of infrastructure and operation and maintenance costs, reducing these expenditures could greatly r...

hydrochlorothiazide (hct) is a diuretic agent which is shown to be effective in the treatment of hypertension. literature reports have demonstrated that urinary excretion data may be used to assess the bioavailability of various formulations containing this thiazide. also hct consumption by the athletes is one of the drugs which should be regulated by world anti-doping agency (wada), because of...
Efficient preliminary floating offshore wind turbine design and testing methodologies and application to a concrete spar design.
The current key challenge in the floating offshore wind turbine industry and research is on designing economic floating systems that can compete with fixed-bottom offshore turbines in terms of levelized cost of energy. The preliminary platform design, as well as early experimental design assessments, are critical elements in the overall design process. In this contribution, a brief review of cu...
متن کاملSHM of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines— Challenges and First Solutions
The paper presents an integrated SHM-system for floater, moorings, tower, nacelle and rotor blades. Its core is based on a multivariate SHM-system for rotor blades with three different measuring techniques accompanied by appropriate signal processing approaches: Acoustic Emission (AE) is used for identification of relative small damages at the whole blade, e.g. bursts of fibres, cracks of bon...
متن کاملAerodynamics and Motion Performance of the H-Type Floating Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
Abstract: Aerodynamics and motion performance of the floating vertical wind turbine (VAWT) were studied in this paper, where the wind turbine was H-type and the floating foundation was truss spar type. Based on the double-multiple-stream-tube theory, the formulae were deduced to calculate the aerodynamic loads acting on the wind turbine considering the motions of the floating foundation. The su...
